Drunk mom tries to stab her 2 daughters after wildly crashing car on highway — but Good Samaritans stop her: cops
A maniac mom from Washington allegedly drunkenly crashed her car on a highway — then tried to kill her two daughters with a knife in a violent spree that ended only when three active-duty soldiers stepped in.
Janieka Ellington, 35, packed her two girls, ages 10 and 15, into her car for a three-hour drive Monday after spending the night drinking whiskey, cops said, according to the Seattle Times.
She crashed her SUV near DuPont — and then allegedly started attacking her daughters with a knife, the report said.
A trio of soldiers who witnessed the melee sprang into action, pinning the crazed mom to the road as she chased the teen with a knife, according to a police affidavit obtained by the Times.
Ellington was charged with four counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of vehicular assault while intoxicated and a count of felony harassment.
One daughter told detectives Ellington had been drinking the night before. She woke them up, loaded them in the car, and they drove for about three hours before the mom began rambling about people following them and rammed the SUV into a highway barrier, police said.
Ellington told authorities she had been drinking whiskey the night before and didn’t get any sleep, according to court records viewed by Fox 13.
Sgt. First Class Jeff Hytower, an active-duty Army soldier, was among the Good Samaritans who subdued the alleged manic mom.
“I just jumped up, it was just instinct … That’s when training kicks in. That’s when everything we do as soldiers kicks in,” he told KING 5.
He managed to disarm Ellington, and two other soldiers — Sgt. Ricardo Nunez of the Army and combat medic Sgt. Alexis McKay of the Washington National Guard — helped him pin her to the ground until police arrived.
“Once I saw the knife and identified it was a knife indeed, I was just trying to isolate that knife from anyone trying to cause harm … and then get that individual to the ground,” Hytower said.
Both daughters were taken to the hospital. The younger had cuts “consistent” with knife wounds, and the teenager had injuries to her hand, ankle and head, the document reads.
Ellington faces multiple felony charges, including two counts of first-degree attempted murder and two counts of vehicular assault.
