Mamdani and Hochul’s perverted priorities over shot illegal immigrant gangbanger

Mayor Zohran Mandani’s thundering defense of an alleged illegal-immigrant gangbanger shines a spotlight, yet again, on his grossly screwed up priorities.

Ditto for Gov. Kathy Hochul and all the other grandstanding New York pols who huffed and puffed after a federal officer shot Oscar Belgal as he tried to run him over with his car.

“Tonight, millions of our neighbors are wondering whether they will be safe on our streets,” roared the mayor.

What do they fear? In Mamdani view, it’s ICE.

That’s right: Illegal-immigrant thugs are of no concern.

Indeed, Hizzoner actually referred to Belgal as a fellow “New Yorker.”

Sorry, Mr. Mayor: Average New Yorkers, who care about their safety, would surely beg to differ.

On the other hand, Mamdani’s anti-ICE theatrics let him change the subject from the disastrous way he snubbed Jews as they marked the third anniversary of the Oct. 7 massacre.

Hochul was just as bad: “New Yorkers are outraged tonight,” she railed.

If New Yorkers are outraged, it’s because they’re learning that a potentially violent thug who’d had run-ins with police was free to roam the streets, thanks to her.

Here’s the latest on the Bronx ICE shooting:

Here are the cold, hard facts: Oscar Belgal is an illegal immigrant and an alleged Trinitarios gangbanger who, police say, was previously charged with grand larceny, theft, robbery and being armed with a deadly weapon.

He’s serving five years’ probation for felony grand larceny.

The feds say he weaponized his car to run down ICE agents trying to take him into custody.

Belgal, they add, aimed his vehicle at federal officers — never mind that his own 5-year-old toddler was strapped in the car with him.

This is a guy who fits well with the type of people Mamdani & Co. repeatedly prioritize (over real New Yorkers): illegal immigrant goons, rank antisemites, terrorist sympathizers . . .

Meanwhile, this incident itself could’ve been 100% avoided if New York didn’t follow “sanctuary” policies and had handed this guy over.

Belgal was nabbed in New York back in December 2023, per the Department of Homeland Security, only to be turned back out onto the streets, thanks to the city’s absurd sanctuary rules.

Out of nearly 15,000 detainer requests from DHS, Secretary Markwayne Mullin reports, New York has honored precisely zero — leaving dangerous criminals with roughly 48,000 violent felony charges to walk free.

And now Hochul is demanding ICE halt all enforcement in the city.

They really don’t want any bad guys off the streets.

They’re determined to completely sabotage law enforcement.

We have to face the fact: Democrats like Mamdani and Hochul would rather handcuff immigration authorities — and their local police partners — than make streets safe.

And they won’t stop and until voters send them a cease-and-desist notice — in the voting booth.
