Ben Affleck jokes ‘spectacular’ ex-wife Jennifer Garner makes him feel inadequate as a dad

Ben Affleck gushed over his ex-wife Jennifer Garner’s parenting skills while discussing their shared children in new comments.

“Their mom is spectacular, and always makes me feel like I’m coming up a little short,” the “Gone Girl” actor said in a preview for an upcoming interview with “Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist,” set to air Oct. 11.

He said he tells kids Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17, and Samuel, 14, “I think I’m doing about 75% as good as your mom. And they’re like, ‘Maybe 40%.’”

“I’m maxing out,” he quipped. “B+.”

Affleck — who split from Garner, 54, in 2015 after a decade of marriage — also said he “respect[s]” his ex-wife and is “grateful for” the “13 Going on 30” actress.

“I think the most important thing is, you know, having that mutual respect … being able to get along with that person,” he told Geist.

Earlier this week, the Oscar winner broke down the famous exes’ shared custody arrangement during an interview with Variety.

“I work hard, and then I go home and pick up the kids from school,” he told the outlet.

“We have dinner if they agree to hang out with me,” he continued. “They’re with me for a week, then with their mom for a week.”

Affleck, 54, said his personal life is “really wonderful,” noting that he “has nothing salacious or all that interesting in [his] life.”

The “Air” actor, who finalized his divorce from Garner in 2018, has maintained an exceptionally friendly post-divorce dynamic with the “Alias” alum.

The former couple regularly come together for holidays and other special occasions involving their children.

In June, Garner gushed over her ex in a social media post for Father’s Day, writing, “I see the way my kids dote on their dad and I’m happy for them. To love and be loved by a great dad is a gift.”

Following his divorce from Garner, Affleck tied the knot with pop megastar Jennifer Lopez — to whom he was previously engaged in 2002.

But after their lavish 2022 nuptials, they ultimately parted ways and finalized their divorce by the start of 2025.

Known throughout the years as “Bennifer,” the former couple is clearly still friendly — Affleck told Variety he has “an enormous amount of respect and admiration for what she can do” as an actress.

Garner, meanwhile, is dating CaliBurger CEO John Miller.
