Jets takeaways, report card from NFL Week 5 win over Browns

Takeaways from Sunday’s 17-12 Jets win over the Browns.

1. Aaron Glenn was asked this week about a lack of splash plays from rookie David Bailey. He won’t get that question again this week. Bailey quieted the doubters with three sacks in the win over the Browns and each sack was more splashy than the last one. Bailey now has five sacks this season.

The noise around Bailey got loud last week because Bailey had a quiet day against the Bears (like the rest of the Jets) and Giants rookie Arvell Reese had a big game. Bailey and Reese will be linked for their careers because the Jets passed on Reese to select Bailey at the No. 2 overall pick. Anyone who watched Bailey this summer knows how much potential the young pass rusher has. Sometimes it takes time for a player to arrive, but Bailey announced his arrival on Sunday.

2. The Jets need to get Adonai Mitchell back in the lineup. Mitchell missed his third game on Sunday after injuring his finger in practice and the Jets desperately miss him, especially with Breece Hall out as well. The Browns focused their defense on Garrett Wilson after a strong first drive and it worked. The Jets’ passing offense consisted of Wilson and not much else.
