Casey Bloys chairs Cedars-Sinai gala honoring ‘The Pitt’ creators on Warner Bros. lot a week after signing new deal at Skydance
Newly crowned Skydance streaming boss Casey Bloys chaired the Cedars-Sinai Sunset Soirée gala on the Warner Bros. lot on Sunday night with WME co-chairman Richard Weitz.
Insiders at the event were breathing a sigh of relief that former HBO CEO Bloys just signed a multiyear extension after the merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. “The gala is on the lot where Casey will now be for the next five years,” said a source as the event kicked off, relieved that the gala wasn’t also awkwardly serving as Bloys’ Warners farewell.
The creators of the HBO medical drama “The Pitt” were honored by the actual life savers at Cedars-Sinai. Noah Wyle, John Wells and R. Scott Gemmill received the Hollywood Leadership Award, presented by “The Pitt” star Katherine LaNasa.
Organizers had quickly moved the event inside to Stages 23 and 30 when the forecast called for rain.
“Casey, after the week you’ve had, a little more stormy weather probably feels familiar!” joked Weitz on stage. “When we named this the ‘Sunset Soirée,’ we weren’t expecting to pick the one day it rains in Los Angeles. But after a few anxious Zoom calls, our Cedars team delivered Plan B: this soundstage,” he added, thanking the event planners.
“We’re gathered on the historic Warner Bros. lot to support what we believe is the world’s best hospital and celebrate people making a difference on screen and in our community,” the power agent said.
Jaime and Andrew Schwartzberg received the Philanthropic Leadership Award. The dress code was “Fall Evening Chic,” and Andy Grammer, who has a new album out Friday, performed.
Beverly Hills meat mecca Steak 48 did the food as a pop-up.
The HBO talent and brass were seated at a front table, and it was the highest grossing Cedars gala ever, we hear, with over $3.1 million and counting to support the Board of Governors’ Innovation to Impact campaign.
