Aaron Donald nearly loses his cool in wild helmet-grabbing scuffle with Bills lineman

During Aaron Donald’s 10-year NFL career before he abruptly retired in 2023, his nickname was “The Hulk.”

And as everyone knows, don’t make the Hulk angry, you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.

The Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle nearly ripped the helmet off Buffalo Bills offensive lineman O’Cyrus Torrence during a heated scuffle on the field just before halftime of the Monday Night Football matchup at SoFi Stadium.

Donald, never one to shy away from confrontation in the trenches, grabbed Torrence by the facemask and appeared ready to take his helmet home as a souvenir before players from both teams rushed in to separate the two behemoths.

It was vintage Donald. The same nasty, relentless competitor who terrorized offensive linemen for a decade before temporarily walking away from football.

Donald, who missed last week’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles with back soreness, appeared to have his first sack of the season against Josh Allen, but a penalty negated it. Regardless, it was one heck of a spin move to take down the 2024 NFL MVP.

Unfortunately for the Rams, Donald’s fire was one of the few things worth celebrating during an otherwise sloppy first half.

Los Angeles entered the locker room trailing Buffalo 13-7, thanks largely to the same self-inflicted wounds that have plagued Sean McVay’s team throughout the young season.

Special teams remained a disaster, with Buffalo’s Ray Davis returning the opening kickoff 70 yards to set up an early field goal. Rams kicker Harrison Mevis then missed a 50-yard attempt, his second consecutive game with a missed field goal.

Add another collection of costly penalties, and it’s becoming painfully obvious that the Rams’ biggest opponent isn’t always standing across the line of scrimmage.

Sometimes, it’s themselves.

Donald nearly taking Torrence’s headgear off certainly wasn’t the kind of discipline McVay wants from his defense.

But at least somebody wearing blue and yellow was showing some fight in an otherwise sloppy first half.
