Collin Gosselin threatens to take legal action against mom Kate over alleged abuse: ‘Justice is very important to me’

Collin Gosselin is weighing his legal options about the alleged abuse he claims he suffered at the hands of his estranged mother, Kate Gosselin.

The 22-year-old exclusively told Page Six when asked if he plans to file a police report against Kate, 51, “It is possible, yes,”

“I have the grounds to do so,” Collin continued. “And this justice is very important to me for all children to know that they should absolutely fight and they should actually look into what has been done to them and never stop fighting it.”

The former “Jon & Kate Plus 8” star, who details his alleged abusive upbringing in his new memoir, “In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood,” added, “I will not stop fighting.”

Collin claimed he has already begun digging into his past and obtaining documentation related to the alleged abuse he said he endured from his mother.

“I am doing a lot of digging as an adult, and yes, we are looking into a lot and following the paper trail,” he said. “Absolutely horrific.”

The reality star alleged in his memoir that Child and Youth Services (CYS) received 14 complaints involving his mother during his childhood, something he said he only learned about as an adult.

“I learned as an adult that there was quite a list,” he said in our interview, adding that he does not know who filed the alleged complaints.

“A lot of the people saw, neighbors and teachers and so many saw that something was off.”

However, Collin believes his mother’s celebrity status helped protect her from scrutiny.

“Even with some adults that did choose to speak up, a lot of it was brushed under the rug because of the status that my mom held and the reputation in our town,” he alleged to Page Six.

“Many people just turned a blind eye because they didn’t want to be the person that ruined America’s favorite reality show.”

In his memoir, Collin also accused the network behind his family’s hit TLC series of protecting his mother and turning a blind eye to what he claims was happening behind closed doors.

“They constantly covered her, and any dirt on her was just brushed away,” he told Page Six.

“I wanted say something, but at the same time, I absolutely knew that the consequences, if they weren’t to scoop me up and take me out of the house that same day, I knew what the consequences would be,” he said.

Collin also alleged in his memoir that his mother once restrained his wrists and ankles with zip ties before he was taken to a hospital, where he claims he reported the incident to a CYS worker.

“They did come to the hospital and they asked me about it and I had told them in detail what had happened,” he said in our interview. “There’s documentation from that day. My mom loves to say that I’ve made up this story.”

“I have it. I mean, simply put, we’ll see the light soon,” he told us.

He also alleged that Kate attempted to conceal evidence of the incident before emergency responders arrived.

“She walked in with tight, long-sleeve clothing and pants that were cuffed, sweatpants cuffed at the bottom, and told me to throw them on quickly,” he recalled to Page Six. “And she essentially was covering up the crimes she had just committed.”

Collin said he does not know whether any criminal investigation was ever conducted into his allegations but claimed police had been notified about concerns involving his family.

“Law enforcement was called many times from what I know,” he said. “In CYS reports it says that police were notified.”

In the same interview with Page Six, Collin accused his mom of more alleged forms of abuse, “…She used to pull me and drag me across the room by my ear, which is when I went to school that one day with a swollen ear.”

Representatives for Kate and TLC did not respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.

Kate released a statement in September 2024 regarding her son’s abuse claims.

“My son Collin, whom I love with all my heart, has received multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years. For the safety of myself, his brothers and sisters and for his own well-being, he was placed in a facility following years of outpatient treatment which proved insufficient for his needs,” she wrote on Instagram.

Kate is referring to when she sent him to live in a behavioral health institution at 11 years old for alleged behavioral issues in 2016.

She continued, “The decision to admit him was made by emergency room doctors following one of his many attacks/outbursts—this one involving his use of a weapon. Fast forward to the present day, and following Jon’s removal of Collin from treatment, my son’s unpredictable and violent behaviors have sadly continued regularly towards Jon, Hannah and others around him.

“Collin’s distorted perception of reality is one of the many issues that he has always struggled with. As many people who have family members grappling with mental health issues can attest, it is rarely and sadly surprising when complete fabrications occur, and this is just another heartbreaking facet of this fight.”

She ended in part, “Unfortunately, I believe Collin remains a very troubled young man who continues to need a lot of help. His brothers and sisters and I have not been directly involved in his life due to his history of unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies towards us.”

Collin has been estranged from his mother since 2016. He has since claimed he was institutionalized because he refused to participate in the family’s reality shows, an allegation Kate has disputed.

His father, Jon Gosselin, ultimately obtained legal and physical custody of Collin in 2018 after getting him out of the facility.

Jon also obtained custody of Collin’s sister Hannah, while their fellow sextuplets Aaden, Joel, Alexis and Leah continued living with Kate, along with their older twin sisters, Mady and Cara.

Collin, who stars in Season 5 of Fox’s reality competition “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” details more about his childhood and his estranged family relationships in “In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood,” released Tuesday.
