California Dems don’t care about your safety — that’s why they’ve opposed the border wall

President Donald Trump’s border wall still isn’t finished, and won’t be until late 2027, at the earliest. But don’t blame him for that.

Blame California Democrats and left-wing groups that have tried to stop it.

Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin reminded America this week that one of the reasons the wall took so long was because of opposition by Gavin Newsom, among others.

The “wall” was the signature promise of Trump’s first term. Democrats knew that if he built that wall, he would be seen as a successful president — and not just as a fluke.

So they were determined to prevent him from building it. And California Democrats led the way.

In Congress, San Francisco’s Nancy Pelosi refused to fund the wall — even though many Democrats had voted to reinforce fencing along the border just a few years before.

Pelosi and her partner in obstruction from New York, Chuck Schumer, shut down the government rather than fund the wall.

In the end, Trump relented — but used emergency funds to start construction.

Democrats — and a host of interest groups — sued to stop him.

The state of California was among the litigants. They fought Trump in court, slowing down construction — until, under President Joe Biden, the federal government settled.

By then, Biden had already abandoned billions of dollars in construction equipment to rust in the desert sun, next to the unfinished wall.

But Democrats were proud. California Attorney General Rob Bonta took credit for leading 18 other states in legal action against the border wall.

“The Trump Border Wall is officially a relic of the past, which is where it belongs,” Bonta said.

Meanwhile, millions of illegal migrants were pouring into the country.

A year later, voters put Trump back in the White House. And today, illegal border crossings are down to near-zero.

And the wall is being built. No longer a “relic of history,” the wall is part of a successful system of border security.

When it is completed, the entire country will benefit. Even Democrats.

Democrats may not want to admit it, but border security is an absolute must before immigration reform.

The public will not support amnesty for those already here, unless we can be sure no more migrants will follow.

Newsom might know that. Maybe that’s why, of the 100 lawsuits California has filed against Trump in his second term, a border wall challenge isn’t one of them.
