Unhinged drug fiend goes ballistic after neighbors refuse to do cocaine with him: ‘offensive to his culture’

A Scottsdale man went on a violent rampage and shot up an apartment building after his neighbors refused to take cocaine with him.

49-year-old Samuel Ellery Sedgwick was arrested following reports that he fired 10 rounds at an apartment complex near Miller and Osborn roads on Thursday morning.

Sedgwick reportedly appeared to be in an altered state when he offered cocaine to apartment residents, according to court documents reviewed by FOX 10. When they had rejected, he allegedly said that the refusal was “offensive to his culture” and started beating up a man.

A second person –– who feared for the victim’s death –– then grabbed a claw hammer and hit the 49-year-old in the face twice. The suspect then pulled out a gun and threatened to kill everyone before he pistol-whipped the injured man and escaped.

Sedgwick went to his nearby apartment and was in rage when he looked at himself in the mirror and saw that his tooth had been chipped away.

Afterwards, the man rode his bicycle back to the original scene and shot 10 rounds at the complex where one bullet tore through a parking structure and hit a neighboring unit. One shot even hit a window and a ceiling of an apartment.

“Sedgwick was quickly apprehended by responding police officers, including patrol officers, Bike Unit officers, Street Crimes Unit detectives, K9 units and Special Assignments Unit detectives,” Officer Aaron Bolin told FOX 10.

The suspect was sent to a local hospital for treatment and later transported into Maricopa County jail. One victim was also taken to a hospital.

While Sedgwick and victims appeared to have known each other, the exact relationships are still unknown. Sedgwick’s gun was found inside of a dumpster and officers found ammunition and a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance inside of his home.

The 49-year-old was previously booked for domestic violence and endangerment back in 2020. He was also charged with aggravated assault and “threatening or intimidating with injury or damage to property.”

He is currently due to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on October 26.
