Jane Seymour exposes real-life romance with ‘Dr. Quinn’ co-star Joe Lando 35 years later: ‘We really fell in love’

Jane Seymour surprised 90s Cons fans with a rare comment on her “secret” romance with “Dr. Quinn” co-star Joe Lando.

The actress confessed during a panel attended by People that she and Lando, who respectively played Dr. Michaela “Mike” Quinn and Byron Sully between 1993 and 1998, “really fell in love” on the set of the Western drama.

“That’s a secret,” she shared with the audience before acknowledging it was “not a secret anymore.”

Seymour, 75, explained that their relationship began just days into filming when Lando drove her in his pickup truck to avoid a flash flood — and to enjoy Mexican food and margaritas.

“It took us, like, $5, and then we realized that, you know, we had actually fallen in love,” the “Wedding Crashers” star, who is currently engaged to musician John Zambetti, recalled. “So everything you saw on ‘Dr. Quinn,’ certainly in the pilot, [was real].”

However, she and Lando, 64, called it quits before long because Lando “had a plan” for his life involving four children and a white picket fence.

Seymour, at the time, was already a two-time mom to daughter Katherine, now 44, and son Sean, now 41, with ex-husband David Flynn.

She went on to welcome twins John and Kristopher, now 30, with James Keach after she and Lando called it quits — and joked over the weekend that she sure “showed him.”

Lando, for his part, welcomed four kids — Jack, Christian, Kate, and William — with wife Kirsten Barlow, whom he wed in 1997.

His failed romance with Seymour helped bring the pair’s characters “sexual tension that [they] wouldn’t have had if [they’d] been playing happy households or something,” the latter told Us Weekly when first discussing the romance in 2019.

“We didn’t actually talk to each other, other than in dialogue or making out for about six or seven years,” she revealed of the “difficult” and “tough” experience.

Seymour continued, “We, obviously, clearly loved one another and realized we couldn’t be actually in real-life together. I think we just played it [off] as Michaela and Sully.”

The series, notably, wrapped with two TV movies in 1999 and 2001 — and the ex-colleagues are now close friends.

Not only did Lando make headlines in April for attending Seymour’s 75th birthday bash, but the former soap star took shelter at her Malibu, California, home during last year’s Los Angeles wildfires.

“[She] allowed us to come over to her house and opened it up for us without any hesitation and, thank God, gave us someplace to come and sleep,” Lando told his Instagram followers in 2025, calling the ex-Bond girl an “angel.”

The duo last worked together in 2022 when they co-starred in the Lifetime movie “A Christmas Spark.”
