Sophia Bush shut down speculation that her and Ashlyn Harris’ relationship had any overlap with their past respective marriages.

“Two people who had filed for divorce and lived in separate residences from their exes went to dinner,” the actress said of their first date during her Wednesday appearance on “Call Her Daddy.”

When host Alex Cooper asked Bush directly if she can confidently say there is no overlap, she instantly responded, “I can say that.”

The “One Tree Hill” alum did, however, admit that she wishes she could have handled the beginning of her and Harris’ relationship differently as they were both going through fresh splits.

Harris wed her fellow USWNT soccer player Ali Krieger in 2019 and the former pair adopted two children together, daughter Sloane, 5, and son Ocean, 4. Harris then filed for divorce in September 2023.

Page Six confirmed the Olympian and Bush’s romance the following month, with the latter coming out as queer in a Glamour cover story in April 2024.

As for Bush, she was married to Grant Hughes for 13 months and filed for divorce in August 2023. 

“Everybody wishes they could’ve done a million things differently at the time,” Bush confessed.

The “Chicago P.D.” star recalled that she asked Harris on their first date because she happened to be stopping in New York, near where Harris resided, and already had two tickets to a comedy show.

In hindsight, Bush wishes their first date took place “six weeks later” than when it occurred.

Bush added, “What I can’t do is change my reality for anyone else. I also can’t be my own personal definition of insanity, which is to try the same thing over and over again with no result. I’m never going to change anybody’s mind who made it up.”

Although the “John Tucker Must Die” star admitted she would love to give the middle finger to everyone who has accused her of being involved in infidelity, she “has done too much work on [herself] to hurt someone” and noted that there are children involved in the situation.

“I don’t want to be party to that and that’s a really hard practice because all I want to do is be like, ‘Here’s all the information.’”

Bush also said the rumors of infidelity have been “fun for strangers,” but have affected her and Harris’ jobs and “destroyed their credibility.”

“It was very clearly hard for everyone, and it became like a sport and that was ugly.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Bush recalled her first introduction to Harris when they became mutuals on social media in 2015.

They didn’t meet in person until four years later, and after years of friendship, Bush realized she had feelings for the athlete.

“But I’m a little bit chickens—t, so this whole, like, ‘Oh, they must have gotten drunk and had an affair’ — anyone who thinks that was a casual leap for me doesn’t know me.”

As Page Six previously reported, Krieger was “devastated” when Harris ended their marriage and discovered the news while she was “in the locker room.”

Shortly after the split, Krieger’s brother hinted that Harris had cheated, though she has vehemently denied speculation of infidelity.

Harris later revealed she asked Krieger for an “open marriage” as a last-ditch effort to keep their relationship alive. However, she immediately realized that wasn’t actually what she wanted.

Last month, Bush revealed that she and Harris have been married for more than a year and that the secret nuptials took place in the summer of 2025.

“We spent so much time being quiet and we through a lot of really hard things and then slowly, life just got more and more beautiful,” Bush told Cooper as to why they chose to keep their union private.

Although she kept the details of their engagement private, Bush revealed she was the one to propose.

“Turns out, I was never supposed to be asked, I was supposed to ask,” she said with a smile, adding that it was “so sweet.”
