LI teacher and coach who posed as teen on Snapchat to get nudes sentenced to 3 years in prison
A high school teacher and soccer coach who posed as a teen online to solicit nude photos from underage girls was sentenced to three years in prison Wednesday.
Ryan McCaffery, 38, a Riverhead High School social studies teacher and junior varsity soccer coach, used Snapchat to pose as a teenage boy and “quick added” hundreds of random young girls to ask them to trade nude photos, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Between December 2024 and January 2025, the perverted teacher sent numerous minors images of his exposed penis and asked them for nude photos in return, while also sharing and even purchasing child porn on other sites, prosecutors said.
“[McCaffery’s] conduct was deeply disturbing and wholly unacceptable,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney.
“Children should never have to navigate this kind of exploitation or have their innocence stolen by an adult’s actions — adults have a responsibility to protect children, not expose them to sexually explicit material,” he added.
In November 2024, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children tipped off the State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that McCaffery had shared child sexual abuse material on the messaging app Kik.
After receiving the tip, troopers then raided McCaffery’s Ridge home in January 2025 and seized several electronic devices.
A forensic analysis uncovered the sick Snapchat messages and also showed McCaffery had tried to view and buy even more disturbing and abusive images and videos, and had shared at least one such video with another Kik user, according to prosecutors.
Less than a month after the raid on his home, McCaffery was arrested in New Jersey for his disturbing actions and resigned from Riverhead High School in February 2025.
Then just three months after he was busted by New Jersey cops, he was arrested again, this time by State Police on Long Island for the same sick behavior.
Last month, McCaffery pleaded guilty to two felony counts of disseminating indecent material to minors first-degree as a sexually motivated felony, and one misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.
Prior to last month’s guilty plea, he already admitted to similar crimes in New Jersey, where he began serving a five-year sentence in February. This new three-year in New York sentence will run concurrently to his existing time, meaning it likely won’t add any years behind bars.
McCaffery will also face five years of post-release supervision.
In 2019, Riverhead High School Principal Charles Regan was accused in a $10 million lawsuit of sending thousands of sexually explicit texts to an 18-year-old student and then grabbing and kissing her in his office, The Post previosuly reported.
