Warriors make their stance clear amid growing Kristaps Porzingis drama
The Golden State Warriors have yet to tip off the 2026-2027 season against the Los Angeles Lakers on for its season opener, and it’s already been an eventful day for them.
ESPN dropped a bombshell of news that read, the Warriors “have begun exploring trade routes” for Kristaps Porzingis, despite him being out indefinitely.
Two hours after the report was released, the Warriors addressed the rumors by releasing a statement.
“In response to today’s media report regarding Kristaps Porzingis, we are not going to comment on trade speculation or reports regarding his health-related matter or future,” Wednesday’s statement by the Warriors read. “As noted last week, conversations between the Warriors, Kristaps and his representatives will remain private. We are not anticipating Kristaps being around the team in the immediate future. We’ll provide additional updates when available and appropriate.”
On Monday, head coach Steve Kerr told reporters that he wasn’t planning on having the former NBA Champion and All-Star travel with the team this season because he wanted to give him space so that he could focus on the rest of the team.
A week ago, Porzingis addressed his health rumors through social media by releasing a statement on X, and letting fans know he’s been “working with doctors and experts to figure out how to be fully back to good health asap.”
Porzingis went on to write that he’s been getting “better and better” and said he has to stay patient.
In the ESPN report, insider Shams Charania was told by a source that if his health doesn’t improve, “stepping away from basketball — for good — is possible for him.”
It continues to remain unknown what mystery illness Porzingis is dealing with.
Over the offseason, the Warriors and Porzingis agreed to a two-year $40 million contract extension.
