Plane crash lands on freeway near California border, snarling traffic

A small plane crash-landed on a busy Nevada interstate Thursday morning, shutting down westbound traffic along a major highway connecting Reno to California.

The single-engine Seawind 3000 aircraft came down on Interstate 80 near Patrick, east of Reno, around 7:49 a.m., just seven minute after taking off from Reno, according to local outlet News 4.

The crash forced authorities to close all westbound lanes near USA Parkway, with no estimated reopening time. The Nevada Department of Transportation urged drivers to avoid the area and use southbound USA Parkway as an alternate route.
