Cops discover California schoolgirl shooting plotters’ secret list of targets — as likely motive revealed

Two teenage girls plotted to shoot up a Riverside County high school and penned a list of exactly who they’d kill, police revealed.

The 15-year-old girls, whose identities have not been revealed, were arrested this month for conspiracy to commit murder after the FBI discovered them plotting on social media and referred them to local police.

Corona Police Department Lt. Robert Montanez revealed shocking details about the list on Wednesday to CBS News.

Montanez said the list included students and teachers at Corona High School. The list is just a component of the planning the girls did for their attack on the Riverside County high school.

“I can’t really speak to what was in these girls’ minds. But yes, there was a list with individuals’ names on it, but their target was clearly the school campus,” Montanez said.

He added that revenge was a likely motive for the girls.

Corona Police Department Lt. Robert Montanez revealed shocking details about the list on Wednesday to CBS News.

“Again, I can’t speak to what’s going in these girls’ heads. There is some indication that revenge played some role in this. If that’s the case, it’s extraordinarily unfortunate that it’s got to this point where these girls felt that this was their only avenue to deal with their problems.” Montanez said.

Among other actions, the girls obtained a map of the high school campus to study. The teens also looked into how to subvert state laws to obtain firearms. Police said the pair was ultimately unsuccessful in obtaining any guns, and no firearms were recovered during the investigation.

Police executed search warrants, combed electronic devices, and searched several residences in the area as part of the investigation.

Cops arrested one of the girls on Oct. 6 and the other on Oct. 20.

One attended Corona High School and the other attended Norco High School, but formerly went to Corona.

FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement that “a potential act of targeted violence against a Southern California high school was disrupted before anyone was harmed.”

He said the FBI identified online communications discussing a “planned school attack,” and the Los Angeles FBI field office moved “immediately,” identified those involved, and worked with local police to take the teens into custody.

Local police concluded no alleged attack was imminent despite their planning.

“They were still very much in the planning stages,” Montanez said, adding no date had been set for the assault.

The Riverside District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case, they told The California Post. No charges have been filed at this time, they added, and they would not release the teens’ identities.

The office later informed The Post that “pursuant to Welfare and Institutions Code section 676” they would not say whether charges have been filed or release the identities of the teens.

“This provision protects the privacy of juveniles and supports the goal of rehabilitation by allowing young people the opportunity to redirect their lives toward a productive adulthood,” they added.

The district noted neither girl has been on campus since the investigation began Oct. 6.

“We are grateful for the swift response of the Corona Police Department and their continued partnership throughout this investigation,” they wrote in a statement.

It’s unclear if the girls have been formally charged yet or when they will attend court proceedings.

The plot comes days after a teen committed a horrific school shooting at an Oregon elementary school.
