Son, 48, dies after falling into father’s grave while attending friend’s funeral

A man shockingly died after plummeting into his father’s grave while attending his friend’s funeral in Brazil, according to reports.

Adilson Marsaro, 48, died in the freak accident on Wednesday while he attended a funeral for his acquaintance who died in a road accident at the São José Municipal Cemetery in Linhares, Brazilian outlet O Globo reported.

Marsaro wandered off from the service and sat on his father’s concrete gravestone at the cemetery when it suddenly collapsed — causing him to plunge into the grave shaft below, SUR reported.

The fall caused a loud noise that alarmed nearby mourners, who called emergency responders to the scene, the outlet reported.

But Marsaro was already dead when rescuers arrived, according to reports.

Marsaro had reportedly greeted people at his friend’s funeral and left his motorcycle and helmet at his pal’s gravesite before heading to his father’s gravestone, gravedigger Nazaré Bravin told O Globo.

He was buried in the same cemetery where the deadly mishap happened the following day.

In a statement, Linhares City Hall urged people to exercise “extra precautions” while visiting the São José Cemetery — where nearly 18,000 people are buried — as the Day of the Dead holiday approaches.

“The Municipality of Linhares regrets what happened this Wednesday afternoon (21), at the São José Cemetery, in the Interlagos neighborhood, and expresses its solidarity with family and friends at this time of grief,” Linhares City Hall said in a statement to A Gazeta.

“With the approach of the Day of the Dead holiday, an increase in traffic is expected at the city’s cemeteries. Therefore, the city government is reinforcing the importance of taking extra precautions during visits,” the statement continued, noting that the upkeep of tombs is the responsibility of families.

An investigation into Marsaro’s death is ongoing, the Civil Police told Midiamax.
