Brewers vs. Rays prediction, odds: Milwaukee eyes first World Series title in Tampa Bay

One of the most dominant postseason runs in MLB history could culminate in a World Series title in Tampa Bay on Tuesday night.

The Brewers’ electric 8-run fifth inning lifted them to a 10-1 win in Game 3 against the Rays and also pushed their postseason record to 10-1 this October.

The Rays are on the ropes and are staring at a difficult 0-3 hole.

No team has ever come back from such a deficit in the Fall Classic. Tampa Bay is +106 on the moneyline, while the Brewers enter Tropicana Field as -124 favorites.

Oddsmakers anticipate a low-scoring Game 4, with the Over on 7.5 total runs juiced at +110 on FanDuel.

Brewers vs. Rays Game 4 prediction, pick

As of this writing, Milwaukee hasn’t named an official starter for Game 4, as Pat Murphy will likely deploy an open bullpen strategy, and Dustin May may be the first man out. Robert Gasser’s six shutout innings leave the Brewers’ stable of relievers relatively fresh for tonight.

Either way, whoever they hand the ball to will have ample run support, as Jackson Chourio is batting .615 (8-for-13), accounting for 4 runs, 2 RBIs, and 3 stolen bases in the World Series. The 22-year-old comes off a four-hit Game 3, while he and teammate William Contreras are co-favored at -110 to win MVP honors.

Beyond that pair, Milwaukee got crucial contributions throughout the order in Game 3, with Christian Yelich, Brice Turang, and Sal Frelick each driving in runs during that historic eight-run, two-out surge in the fifth inning.

Tampa has lost every way imaginable, and while the minor details haunted them in Games 1 and 2, those close losses don’t compare to how Game 3 ended for them.

If the Rays want any shot at extending this series, it starts with Griffin Jax on the mound, who enters on 12 days’ rest after last pitching four innings against the Guardians in the ALCS.

In two postseason outings, the right-hander has pitched six innings total, allowing six hits, four runs, one home run, and striking out six. Kevin Cash won’t be afraid to dig into his bullpen early, and Jax’s 6.00 ERA in the playoffs may prompt him to do so.

However, history heavily favors Milwaukee, as teams holding a 3-0 lead in a best-of-seven playoff matchup have clinched the series 98% of the time, including 33 sweeps.

The Brewers can also become the first team to record back-to-back sweeps in both the LCS and Fall Classic, and I expect them to complete the job.
