Tennessee lawmaker blames sending unsolicited nudes on ‘youthful indiscretions’ — at 53

A married Tennessee state lawmaker running for Congress has admitted sending unsolicited nudes, dismissing the scandal as “youthful indiscretions” — even though he was 53 at the time.

Brent Taylor, a 58-year-old Republican state senator up for reelection while also running in a tight race for the U.S. House in Tennessee’s 9th District, acknowledged sending the lewd photos after they were first reported by the Nashville Scene.

One source reported getting sent a nude photo as recently as 2021, when Taylor, now 58, was already 53, a point he skipped while dismissing the growing election scandal.

“As I near 60 years old, the expiration date has come and gone on any of my youthful indiscretions,” Taylor told the Nashville Scene when asked about a sexting history.

“Whatever story you think you’ve got, my wife is well aware of and we’ve worked through it a long time ago. My god and my wife have forgiven me, and I would consider everyone else doing the same,” the lawmaker added.

Taylor confirmed to ActionNews5 that he had sent the photos, but said they were all to only one woman.

He released another statement saying that he was confident that Tennessee voters “aren’t concerned about my family or this type of past nonsense.”

“I’m willing to acknowledge my past indiscretion. The frustrating part is that my wife now has to relive this nonsense we’ve already worked through years ago together and moved on from,” he said.

Taylor has served in the state Senate since 2023 and is now running for Tennessee’s 9th District against state Rep. Justin Pearson (D-Memphis) and independents Dennis Clark and Michelle Head.

Pearson, 31, who was famously expelled from the Tennessee House as one of the “Tennessee Three” in 2023 after storming the chambers with protesters, slammed his opponent’s conduct in a blistering statement.

“Men of faith –– let alone men who are married, in their fifties, and in public office –– have no business sending unsolicited nude photos to women,” Pearson said.

Taylor’s belief that sending unwanted naked photos of himself to women at 53 years old is “youthful indiscretion” is a ridiculous and dangerous mischaracterization of the type of predatory behavior that needs to be rooted out of our society and politics.”

Tennessee’s 9th congressional district is the Volunteer State’s lone Democratic-held U.S. House seat.

It’s currently represented by Steven Cohen, who has held the seat since 2007 but announced he would be retiring when he completes this term after Republican leaders controversially re-mapped his district.

Cook Political Report ranks the re-aligned district, which was formerly a Democrat stronghold, as “Solid R.”

Early voting is currently underway in Tennessee and ends Thursday.
