Justin and Hailey Bieber abruptly kicked ex-Hillsong pastor’s family out of home over cheating scandal
Is it too late now to say sorry?
Justin Bieber’s former pastor pal Carl Lentz and wife Laura Lentz called out the pop star and Hailey Bieber in their new book for allegedly kicking out their family over Carl’s November 2020 cheating scandal.
“We’d been planning a potential move to Brooklyn for months,” Laura wrote in “Overcoming Infidelity: 10 Conversations to Help You Heal the Hurt,” the Daily Mail reported Thursday.
While Justin, 32, and Hailey, 29, initially told Carl and Laura and their three kids — Ava, 22, Charlie, 20, and Roman, 17 — to “take [their] time exploring where [they] might live” and “use their place as long as needed,” the couple rescinded the offer when Carl made headlines for being unfaithful.
“Somebody on Justin’s team [called] to say we needed to be out of his and Hailey’s apartment in the next 24 hours. We hastily packed our things and loaded them into a rented U-Haul, ” Laura, 48, recalled.
Carl, 47, dubbed the move a “kick to the ribs” when he was “already down for the count,” having been fired from Manhattan’s Hillsong Church over “moral failures.”
He wrote, “I deserved to be kicked to the curb, but I felt Laura and the kids were just innocent bystanders suffering once again for my sins.”
While Carl was “devastated” on behalf of his loved ones, he now understands he put Justin “in a precarious place on multiple levels.”
He confessed that the scandal “exploded” his “close” relationship with the Grammy winner since it dragged him and Hailey into a “publicity nightmare they never asked for.”
Reps for Justin and Hailey did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
Carl and Laura, who are still together, noted that the “majority” of their friends “went silent” at the time, name-dropping Tyler Perry in their book, published Oct. 20, as the only person who “walked straight into [the] fire while the embers were still white hot and offered help.”
The actor, 57, let the family of five stay in his Manhattan Beach, California, mansion — notably, not the same residence he opened up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after the retired royals fled England earlier that same year.
Perry is still close with Carl and Laura and gushed over their “moving” book via social media this week.
Justin, meanwhile, has never commented publicly on Carl’s marital drama — although he and Hailey did unfollow the Lentz family on social media in 2020.
The following year, the songwriter made cryptic comments to GQ about church leaders putting themselves “on a pedestal.”
Justin’s friendship with Carl dated back to 2008, with the “Baby” hitmaker even briefly living with the Lentz family in New Jersey in 2014.
“There was a period where he just needed to get out of dodge, his regular life, and lived with us,” Carl, who was invited to Justin and Hailey’s wedding, explained to the Associated Press in 2017 of the “pretty special time.”
“We thought maybe it would be cool for a little bit just to check out of the grind that you’re in as one of the biggest stars in the world and just be normal,” he continued.
