‘Game of Thrones’ star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau pictured hiding in Ukraine metro station amid Russian air raid threat

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was forced to take shelter overnight inside a metro station in Ukraine Wednesday during a Russian air raid threat.

The “Game of Thrones” alum, 56, is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and visited the nation’s capital, Kyiv. He spent the night alongside residents taking shelter in the midst of a possible Russian missile and drone strike, amid the country’s war with Ukraine.

In pics obtained by Page Six, Coster-Waldau lies down on a cot wearing a blue UNDP hoodie, khaki cargo pants and black sneakers. He’s also pictured looking tense inside the metro alongside other passengers.

The Danish actor wore a green backpack and carried his own supplies in a black bag as he was later spotted walking by makeshift tents.

Coster-Waldau posted about the experience on his Instagram Stories, noting, “Spent the night in the Kyiv Metro. Pretty rough night.”

“I get to do it one night and tell the tale but there are thousands of Ukrainians it’s a necessity to be safe during the shelling,” he continued. “We need to keep helping the civilians and uphold the rules we all agree on.”

He then posted a snapshot of the air raid alerts in Kyiv, which were at level red for three straight days from Oct. 27 to Oct. 29.

In video taken by Reuters, Coster-Waldeau said he was in Ukraine to raise awareness and to make sure that “people don’t forget there’s a country in need.”

“They’re doing amazing but they need help from the international community, especially now that we’re getting closer to winter,” he noted.

Despite the circumstances, he appeared to be in good spirits as he laid down on his cot, smiling as he tried to get comfortable.
