Canadian CEO, daughters shot and wife attacked with hammer as masked suspects invade their multi-million dollar Toronto home

A Canadian real estate CEO and his two daughters were shot while his wife was struck with a hammer during an invasion inside their multi-million-dollar home in an affluent Toronto neighborhood Thursday morning.

MAC Group boss David Morton and his family were attacked when three masked men stormed into their gated Bridle Path home at around 3:45 a.m., according to The Toronto Sun.

The suspects, who were armed with handguns and a hammer, gained access to the residence through a back door, Toronto Police Service Inspector Kristy Smith told reporters.

Morton, 75, and his daughters, Maggie Zohil-Morton and Cristina Zohil-Morton, confronted the unidentified intruders who were wearing ski masks and hoodies inside the home.

“A struggle ensued during this altercation in which the suspects fired their guns multiple times and one victim was struck with a hammer,” Smith said.

The trio “tried to fight off” the trespassers when they were shot, sources told the outlet.

Morton and one of his daughters were shot in the leg, while the other daughter suffered a gunshot wound under her arm, the outlet reported.

Morton’s wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, who also serves as the president of the MAC Group, was attacked by one of the hammer-wielding suspects.

Two of the family members suffered “life-altering injuries” and remained hospitalized while the other two sustained non-life-threatening wounds, Smith said.

The family members were not identified by their injuries.

Descriptions of the suspects were not revealed, but officials said they had fled the area in an SUV.

It was not immediately known if anything was stolen from the house during the invasion.

A motive for the attack was not revealed but it is believed they were looking to rob the upscale neighborhood.

“There was a violent interaction. There was a demand made for valuables from within the home. Whether or not they escaped with anything is uncertain at this point,” Smith said.

“An affluent area where people would have things that are sought after would be the motivation for this,” Smith added.

A nearby home on 10,000 square feet of property is listed for $8.45 million in the ritzy nabe.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow called on the community to provide any information about the attack and said there would be added police security around the neighborhood.

“I am deeply troubled by the violent home invasion early this morning in the Bridle Path neighborhood. My thoughts are with the family and their loved ones, who are going through something no family should ever have to face. I am praying for their full recovery,” Chow wrote on X.

The MAC Group is a family-owned company based in Toronto with sub-divisions that specialize in real estate, hospitality and corporate housing.

Morton oversees all divisions of the company as he has 30 years of experience in hospitality and real estate, according to the company’s website.
