Spirit Halloween shopper recounts heart-stopping escape from California store as 1 killed, 6 hurt in shooting
A survivor of the deadly shooting at a Spirit Halloween in California described her heart-stopping escape from the store as gunfire erupted, leaving one person dead and six others injured.
David Bernal’s wife was shopping in the pop-up seasonal store at the Solano Town Mall in Fairfield at 8:30 p.m. when shots rang out.
“She’s at home right now, still in shock,” Bernal told KCRA, adding she heard “five big bangs, big ones, like loud.”

The survivor ran from the shots that struck seven – killing one and leaving three in critical condition, according to authorities.
Bernal’s wife escaped “out from one of the exits on the other side of the mall,” he told the outlet.
A manhunt is now underway for any potential suspects. The Fairfield Police Department did not confirm whether there were multiple suspects or a sole gunman at a press conference on Friday, but said no one has been detained.
“This is still a very active crime scene. Detectives are speaking with witnesses and diligently working to identify the suspect responsible for this horrific shooting,” said Fairfield Police Department Chief Dan Marshall.
