Eagles vs. Commanders prediction, best bet: Flawed NFC East rivals will score on ‘SNF’
It’s been nothing but a sad state of affairs in the NFC East.
This week’s primetime Sunday game between the Eagles and Commanders will broadcast the dysfunction that has engulfed both teams since their Week 1 thriller went down to the wire.
Philadelphia has lost five straight. Jalen Hurts is out for the season. The run defense is a turnstile.
Washington has been mired by pre-snap penalties, slow offensive execution and the inability to stop a third down.
Eagles vs. Commanders prediction, best bet
Bookmakers deem the Eagles 5.5 points more pathetic than the Commanders, who return from their bye at home while Philadelphia comes off a short week following Monday’s 38-21 loss to Dallas.
More notably, they’ve determined the two make for a meager 40-point total.
Disconnect has plagued the Commanders offense and somehow, Dan Quinn still has a job, but Jayden Daniels has still engineered 21.5 points per game in his four starts — all losses.
He’s responsible for seven total touchdowns to zero interceptions, and that offers some encouragement against an Eagles defense that just registered a whopping zero sacks, quarterback hits and tackles for loss against Dallas.
The Eagles carry several key questionable designations into this game, including Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks.
With or without Barkley, the Eagles’ backfield gets an inviting matchup against a Washington defense that ranks 31st in opponent rushing rate.
Betting on the NFL?
Tanner McKee can’t emulate Hurts’ mobility, arm strength or create an explosive play in high pressure moments, though his 426 passing yards over the last two starts show he can at least move the ball.
There’s opportunity against the Commanders, who allow 254 passing yards per game, a 105.0 opposing passer rating and touchdowns on 81.8 percent of opponents’ red-zone trips.
Eight of the last 10 meetings between these two have cleared the total. Rivalry games — especially in the NFC East — always mean that much more, and there’s enough incentive to reach a modest 41 points.
THE PLAY: Over 40 (-110, BetMGM)
