‘Resident Evil’ Comes to Digital, But When Will the New ‘Resident Evil’ Movie Be Streaming on Netflix?
Just because Halloween is over doesn’t mean you have to stop watching scary movies. Case in point: You’ll soon bee able to watch the new Resident Evil movie online, because the film is coming to digital platforms to buy and rent starting tomorrow.
Directed by Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian), with a script written by Cregger and Shay Hatten, the 2026 Resident Evil movie is the eighth film in the action horror movie franchise, which is based on the Japanese video game series. This is the second attempt at a reboot movie, following the 2021 reboot, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, which failed to earn enough money to garner a sequel.
This time around Austin Abrams stars in the film as a medical courier named Bryan, who is just doing his job making a delivery to Raccoon City General hospital, when a sudden zombie outbreak finds him fighting for his life. The new film is set in the modern day, but mirrors the events of the 1998 Resident Evil 2 video game.
The new Resident Evil was a big hit at the box office, earning nearly $400 million worldwide. Now, Sony hopes to make even more money with the digital release. But before you drop $20 to watch this one at home, you should know that we expect to see Resident Evil streaming on Netflix soon.

Resident Evil 2026 movie digital release date:
The new Resident Evil movie will be released on premium video-on-demand—to buy and rent on digital platforms like Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango At Home, and more —on Tuesday, November 3, at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (which is also November 2 at 9 p.m. Pacific Time).
The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime the movie will cost $19.99 to rent, and $24.99 to buy. If you rent the movie, you will have a 48-hour window to watch it after you hit “play.”
The Resident Evil 2026 DVD and Blu-ray™ release date has not yet been announced.
How to watch the Resident Evil 2026 movie on streaming:
Resident Evil 2026 is not currently streaming free on any of the subscription-based streaming services. However, if you don’t want to pay to buy or rent the movie, we do expect to see Resident Evil 2026 streaming on Netflix in the near future, because of the Sony-Netflix output deal.
Netflix offers three subscription plans to fit your streaming needs. The plans start at $7.99/month for standard with ads and go up to $24.99/month for unlimited ad-free streaming in up to 4K UHD quality.
When will the Resident Evil 2026 movie be streaming free on Netflix?
Resident Evil 2026 will likely be on Netflix sometime around late January 2027.
Netflix has a deal with Sony Pictures that gives the streamer the rights to the Sony movies in the “Pay 1” window, meaning the first streaming window after the film’s home media release. Another recent Sony movie, Scarlet, came to Netflix about four months after opening in theaters nationwide.
If Resident Evil 2026 follows this same release pattern, you can expect Resident Evil 2026 to stream on Netflix around mid-to-late January 2027, aka four months after the movie opens in theaters.
In the meantime, you can watch Resident Evil 2026 movie online by buying or renting the movie on digital platforms.
