‘Saturday Night Live’ slanders Israel — again

“Saturday Night Live,” NBC’s occasionally amusing sketch comedy show, was a gold mine for comedy this past weekend: Alaska’s two Dan Sullivans warping the midterm elections. President Donald Trump’s recent fixation on male backsides. Drunk Uncle’s return. Even a kinder and gentler but still creepy Pennywise the clown.

Yet one performer on the long-running show couldn’t resist reaching for a comedic libel that set jaws on the floor on Halloween.

Michael Che, co-anchor of the “Weekend Update” faux news segment, quipped: “This week, a record number of people voted in Israel’s election, which is great to see regardless of if you’re on the right side, or the left side, or the genocide.”

The audience gasped. “Update” co-anchor Colin Jost looked around, mouth open, facial expression aghast in mock horror — but said nothing before changing the subject.

Che’s “joke” is, of course a false narrative ginned up by terrorists bent on slaughtering Jews. And it’s responsible for an uptick in worldwide antisemitism.

It was not the first time Che used the Jewish state as an unfunny punchline.

On Feb. 20, 2021’s installment of “Weekend Update,” Che reported on Israel’s landmark achievement of vaccinating half of its citizens against COVID-19.

“I’m going to guess it’s the Jewish half,” Che “joked,” reinforcing the flat-out lie that Israel’s government was only inoculating its Jewish citizens. In fact, Israeli citizens of all races and religions are treated equally, and that includes the nation’s Muslim Arabs.

It’s hard enough to fight the lies against Israel and Jews in the news media. Hollywood’s obsession with the lie that Israel is the aggressor and not the victim of terror is a blood libel that unfortunately reaches far more people.

It’s become fashionable for artists like Macklemore, Mark Ruffalo, Javier Bardem, Susan Sarandon and Emma Stone to rail against Israel.

Even Adam Brody, who stars as a rabbi — a Jew in real life and onscreen — in the Netflix TV series “Nobody Wants This,” pushes this falsehood.

“Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide,” Brody yammered in a September interview published in GQ magazine. “Put me down as wanting a free Palestine. It’s awful that it’s taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it’s reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago.”

It is awful that there is so much death and misery. When will Hamas and other radical groups stop trying to wipe out the Jewish people?

But never mind. To the Hollywood numbskulls and their disciples, Jews are the enemy. The only villains. And to sick comics like Michael Che, the butts of twisted jokes.
