As Team Trump saves billions by beating welfare fraud, Dems scream ‘cruelty’

Team Trump’s war on fraud is saving billions by purging people who don’t deserve benefits from programs like Medicaid, food stamps and Obamacare.

Most Americans would call that a victory, but Democrats call it heartless.

And in blue states like New York, the spending keeps soaring, fraud be damned.

As Unleash Poverty notes, 5.5 million fewer people get food stamps through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program since President Donald Trump took office — a 13% drop.

That’s an incredibly welcome reversal: Over the past 20 years, enrollment figures doubled.

Taxpayers can thank Trump & Co. for expanding the program’s work-or-study requirements for able-bodied Americans and for stepped up enforcement.

Medicaid, too, has seen 5.1 million (nearly 7%) fewer cases, again thanks to tighter rules and the Trump fraud crackdown.

Obamacare enrollment is down 4.6 million, reflecting the steep drop in “ghost” policies — i.e., those linked to people who never file claims, and may not even know they have insurance as other parties profit from the government subsidies spent in their name.

The shift in trends is long overdue and offers hope that fraudsters won’t keep robbing billions from taxpayers.

Yet Democrats and their allies use the drops to pretend Republicans are pushing grandma off the cliff.

“They took away Medicaid for people who need it most,” one Washington state senator gripes in a recent pro-Democrat ad.

“People Are Losing Food Assistance as the harmful 2025 Republican Reconciliation Law Is Implemented,” wailed the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities’ SNAP Tracker.

Flat-out lies: Purging fraudsters is essential to ensure enough money for “people who need it most.”

In New York, by contrast, the goal is to bloat the welfare rolls — and spend as much taxpayer cash as possible. That’s the Dems’ definition of “victory.”

Over the past five years alone, Bloomberg reports, state Medicaid outlays have jumped by $45 billion, or more than 50%, to a jaw-dropping projected $134 billion this year.

A key reason: fraud, exactly what Trump is trying to stamp out.

Over the past year, Trump’s Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services czar Dr. Mehmet Oz has been probing more than 100 sites in New York for Medicaid fraud.

Spending on New York’s Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program, which lets friends and family members collect payments for providing home-care services, mushroomed from less than $1 billion in 2016 to more than $11 billion in 2024

All before Trump returned to office — and reflecting enormous fraud; even Democrats admit that, though they make no serious attempt to curb it.

Which puts the lie to their claim that GOP cuts are hurting those who need help most.

If they truly cared about such people, they’d join in the fight against fraud — and help protect money meant for them.
