Meg Ryan’s NYC home in ‘You’ve Got Mail’ lists for $3.95M — a landmark fans still photograph

An Upper West Side townhouse prominently featured in the iconic 1998 “You’ve Got Mail” film has listed for $3.95 million, Gimme Shelter can reveal exclusively.

Shot from the outside, the property was Meg Ryan’s home in the film. And it’s where her character, Kathleen Kelly, fought for the survival of her independent bookstore only to discover that her business rival, Tom Hanks’ character Joe Fox, was also her anonymous online romantic interest.

The late 19th century Renaissance Revival brick-and-limestone rowhouse is located at 328 W. 89th St. It was built in 1894.

“People really love the movie and they love the house,” said listing broker Richard Pretsfelder, of Leslie Garfield, adding that superfans of the film can sometimes be spotted stopping by the house while on a tour to snap a photo or two.

The late Nora Ephron — a former New York Post scribe — directed the 1998 film and co-wrote the screenplay with her sister, Delia. She also wrote the screenplay for another iconic film from the era, “When Harry Met Sally,” which was directed by Rob Reiner, starred Ryan and Billy Crystal and debuted in 1989. Both films helped romanticize the Upper West Side.

The four-story, 20-foot-wide townhouse comes with an original stoop and a private garden. Inside, there’s an owner’s duplex and six other residential units.

At 5,885 square feet, the townhouse features high ceilings, bay windows, parquet floors and six fireplaces.

The basement and parlor stories are limestone, as are the balustrades on top of the bay windows, which are surrounded by terra cotta.

Each floor boasts three windows above the second story while the fourth story features arched windows.
