Jonathan Taylor’s murky response to trade request question with Colts future in limbo
Jonathan Taylor is keeping fans guessing.
The Colts star running back gave an unclear answer on Thursday when asked if he requested a trade from the reeling 2-6 team.
“At this point, the hay is in the barn now,” he told reporters. “We’re preparing for the Dallas Cowboys. We got a home game. After last week, nothing else matters. We just gotta give these fans a win.
“We gotta put out a great, premium product. Can’t be what we put up last week. Can’t be.”
The Colts are expected to be big sellers at the NFL’s Nov. 10 trade deadline, and Taylor is likely near the top of their list along with receiver Josh Downs and possibly quarterback Daniel Jones.
The organization is reportedly seeking a “Christian McCaffrey-type package” for the three-time Pro Bowler Taylor, who has drawn interest from the Seahawks, Vikings, Broncos and Packers. He has also been linked to the Giants.
In 2022, the Panthers received four draft picks (second, third, fourth and fifth-round picks) for a 26-year-old McCaffrey from the 49ers.
Taylor, 27, has 2 ½ years left on his contract. But a team would have the option to extend his deal, just as San Francisco did with its star running back.
Just as locked into all the trade rumors is Taylor’s wife, Ayanna, who has posted various TikTok videos about her feelings as the deadline approaches.
“Have you ever had that feeling that your entire life might change and you just don’t know when?” Ayanna said Tuesday. “Well, welcome to my week, because that last game versus Jacksonville was rough.
“This waiting game is driving me crazy. I feel like a prized calf waiting for the slaughter. Is it gonna happen today? Tomorrow? Is it never gonna happen?”

Taylor was asked if anything Ayanna said to her followers is a reflection of how he feels personally.
“No. … There are a lot of other wives and stuff on TikTok. But really, everything out there … she’s getting the info from you guys,” he said with a laugh. “Her side of it is, I’m just going back telling her ‘Hey, nothing today. Same thing as usual. Had a good day at work.’ … I can definitely understand from her perspective, but it’s not anything like, ‘Hey, post this video and say this.’”
Taylor has been with the Colts since he was taken in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Wisconsin. This season, he has run for 610 yards on 148 carries with eight touchdowns.
Following a 42-7 loss to the Jaguars last week, the Colts will attempt to bounce back against the Cowboys (3-5) in Indianapolis on Sunday.
