The week in whoppers: Chuck Schumer threatens more Dem lawfare, JD Vance plays the blue-nami blame game and more

Diary of disturbing disinformation and dangerous delusions

This threat

“Whenever Trump defies the will of the American people or the law, we will launch investigations, take him to court and entangle him in legislative razor wire” — Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Wednesday

We say: Democrats don’t need Trump to “defy” anything; they launch probes, weaponize courts and obstruct legislation all the time — it’s all they can do. Recall how they launched the Russia Hoax even before Trump took office.

This analysis

“The reason we lost is the war.” — Vice President JD Vance, Wednesday

We say: Vance has never been wild about the Iran war, but if it did play a role in Tuesday’s blue tsunami, it wasn’t simply because Trump started it but because he stopped it, leaving oil prices high for months. Not to mention tariffs, corruption and other issues.

This warning

“Under pressure from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Trump administration may be within days of launching a nuclear strike on Iran.” — Tucker Carlson, Sunday

We say: Carlson deploys a hedge word, “may,” to make utterly wild predictions, such as that “hundreds of millions of people” and their kids “will be killed” in an imminent US nuclear strike, with Netanyahu to blame. Please: Carlson has no idea what President Trump is planning. Yet his scaremongering may have contributed to the GOP’s huge loss Tuesday — and galvanized antisemites.

This ‘story’

“Haley Stevens’ defection . . . is a story about Stevens waking up and choosing violence.” — Ta-Nehisi Coates in Vanity Fair, Monday

We say: Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) switched her endorsement for senator to Mike Rogers (R) over Abdul El-Sayed (D) mainly, she said, because the latter stood with Israel-hater and pro-terror radical Hasan Piker “and his antisemitic bile.” Yet Coates charges that she joined a “campaign of hate” that “has a simple goal: to render Muslims and Arabs more killable.” How vile.
