Bondi Sushi coming to 1221 Sixth Ave

The latest coup at Rockefeller Group’s 1221 Sixth Ave. will come at sidewalk level.

Growing Japanese cuisine group Bondi Sushi signed for a 4,400 square-foot space on the tower’s West 48th Street side, replacing former tenant 48 Lounge. It will be Bondi’s 15th Big Apple location and its largest.

The signing follows the opening of Bondi’s first Midtown location near Bryant Park. It joins Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, Oceana, and Italian coffee bar Zibetto at 1221 Sixth.

Bondi Sushi CEO David Hess enthused over the new venue’s “double-height ceiling, a standalone cocktail bar, our first private dining room and a substantial takeout area.”

We’re told the new Bondi will have the chain’s signature horseshoe-shaped seating counter.

As we reported last month, 1221 Sixth Ave.’s 2.6 million square feet of offices reached 98% occupancy with a lease for law firm Vedder.
