Mamdani distances himself from DSA’s wildest platforms during rapid-fire Fox News questioning

Mayor Zohran Mamdani once again distanced himself from some of the wildest policies espoused by leaders of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Hizzoner downplayed the possibility of him getting booted out of the lefty group while claiming there’s mainstream public support to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“The thing that has been offered as a part of a litany of policy platforms that I would reject is, after last night, why would we abolish the Senate?” Mamdani told “Fox News Sunday” in a pre-taped interview.

“I think what we’re seeing is that Americans across this country are facing a cost-of-living crisis,” he added. “Americans are tired of waiting. They are tired of being told that their needs are unrealistic by the very politicians who have been bought by the wealthiest people in the country.”

“I’m proud to be doing so as a mayor who’s a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.”

The DSA platform calls for abolishing the Senate, which some experts believe can’t be done through a constitutional amendment.

During a rapid-fire question-and-answer round with Fox News’ Shannon Bream, Mamdani denied wanting to eliminate borders, the Supreme Court — and jails.

“No”, he replied with a grin, when asked if he thinks the “DSA is going to kick you out.”

“When you go into a room and there are more than one socialist in the room, you will often find disagreement in that room,” he said.

“What unites members of the Democratic Socialists of America is in many ways what has brought people into politics over the years, a belief in the dignity of working-class people and the dignity that has to be a characteristic of their lives.”

The Big Apple boss had watered down some of his far-left positions from earlier in his political career when he questioned the purpose of prisons and backed defunding the New York Police Department in 2020.

Over recent weeks, he has taken heat from his far-left flank for not nixing the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group, among other campaign pledges.

During his Fox News interview, Bream noted that key campaign promises such as a $30 an hour minimum wage, free busing, arresting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and more haven’t come to fruition.

“It’s difficult, but that doesn’t mean you shirk away from it,” he admitted, before touting progress on expanding childcare access.

“A promise is something that you should meet,” he later added. “Some promises, you do day one, some of them day 365, some of them year three. You keep going.”
