Rams’ injury nightmare continues as Puka Nacua suffers mysterious knee injury on final play
LANDOVER, Md. — Just when the Los Angeles Rams thought their injury nightmare was finally behind them, another dark cloud appeared over their locker room Sunday afternoon.
All-Pro wide receiver Puka Nacua reportedly suffered a knee injury on the Rams’ final offensive snap of their 20-13 victory over the Washington Commanders and will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the damage.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Rams do not believe Nacua suffered a torn ACL, but Monday’s imaging will provide a clearer picture.
The news comes as a potentially devastating blow for a Rams team that has finally found its footing, winning three consecutive games to climb above .500 for the first time this season.
Interestingly, there were no obvious signs of trouble when the California Post spoke with Nacua following the game.
The Rams’ star receiver was standing, smiling and displaying his usual jovial personality, hardly resembling a player who had just suffered a potentially significant knee injury.
Earlier in the game, Nacua had another injury scare after running a deep route on an incomplete third-down pass. He immediately entered the blue medical tent, raising concerns about his health.
When asked about that sequence afterward, Nacua explained that he had been flagged for a potential concussion. He subsequently returned to action.
“I called in for concussion protocol,” said Nacua. “It was a deep ball and I fell down, but nothing to do with a head injury.”
Apparently, his injury troubles weren’t finished.
Nacua’s latest setback comes amid a season in which injuries have ravaged the Rams’ roster, making his availability even more critical as Los Angeles attempts to salvage its Super Bowl aspirations.
Head coach Sean McVay is expected to address the injury when he speaks with reporters Monday.
