Enola Holmes 3, which began streaming on Netflix yesterday, is perhaps the most romantic Enola movie yet. If you’re just here for the Enola and Tewkesbury love story, you’re going to be very happy. After all, the movie does open with their wedding. But the most romantic scene in the movie doesn’t involve a ring or a white veil—it’s sensuous, intimate moment in which stars Millie Bobby Brown and Louis Partridge strip down to their Victorian undergarments, and take a dip in the sea together.

Enola Holmes 3 was directed by Philip Barantini, with a screenplay written by Jack Thorne (who also adapted the first two films, from the Enola Holmes book series by Nancy Springer). The film opens with Enola (Brown) gearing up to marry the dashing Lord Tewkesbury (Partridge). But the wedding is put on hold when Enola’s brother Sherlock (Henry Cavill) goes missing.

Well, what actually happens is that Enola is having cold feet about taking on the title of “Lady,” and is late to her own wedding. She was on her way, but then Dr. Watson (Himesh Patel) intercepted her with the news of Sherlock’s disappearance. As a result she kinda, sorta, accidentally ghosted Tewkesbury while he was waiting for her to walk down the aisle. Needless to say, Tewkesbury is upset.

After another kidnapping and spot of arson, Tewkesbury starts to forgive his fianceé. But they really work things out when, about halfway through the film, the young lovers come across an old bathing cabin, aka a 19th century changing room found on the seaside. They decide to take advantage of it, and strip down to their (very modest, very Victorian) undergarments.

It’s all very innocent and sweet. This is a family movie, after all. Enola and Tewkesbury turn their backs, to give each other privacy as they slowly unbutton their shirts. (I guess this answers the question as to whether these two had sex before marriage!) Enola keeps her back turned as Tewkesbury moves to face her. He presses a tender kiss to the back of her head. Awww!

Tewkesbury caresses Enola’s long hair, and plaits it into a braid for her. We stan a man who knows how to braid. (Fellow Louis Partridge stans, I’m sorry to report that Tewkesbury vest does not come off. It does come unbuttoned, though.)

It’s an undoubtedly sensual moment that devolves into a childlike playfulness, when Enola and Tewkesbury splash around in the water together. But the real romance comes in the scene that immediately follows, when the lovesick pair dries off by a campfire.

Tewkesbury confesses to Enola that he is worried he forced her into marriage. Enola rushes to reassure him.

“When I said yes, I said yes to you,” she tells him. “And then it felt like everyone was crowding in with what I must say, and how I must behave, and who I should invite… I started to feel I wasn’t enough. But any doubt was never of you. Never of spending my life with you, or committing to you. I’m sorry. I know I hurt you terribly.”

Tewkesbury accepts Enola’s apology, of course. These two can’t stay mad at each other for long!

And, spoiler alert, they do get married, for real, at the end of the movie. After the wedding, they take another swim together, and kiss while treading water. Not only is it romantic, it’s an impressive physical feat. Treading water is hard enough without adding kissing to the mix.
