Benny Blanco set the record straight on when he and his wife, Selena Gomez, began their secret romance.

“We kept our relationship private for a long time, about eight or nine months,” the music producer told Spanish newspaper El País.

Blanco said the “Calm Down” singer asked him whether he was “sure” he wanted to be in a relationship with her.

“And she asked me, ‘Are you sure you want to do this? I understand if you want us to just be friends,’” he recalled.

“And then I said, ‘You know what? Screw it,’” the songwriter added.

“We’re lucky because we both have friends and family we’ve known since before all this, and we’re surrounded by a good group of people we love.”

Blanco told the outlet how he deals with “public scrutiny” while being married to Gomez — is the third most followed person in the world on Instagram behind soccer stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi.

“I don’t like to expose my life. Famous people are under constant scrutiny: if you say one thing, it’s wrong, and if you say another, it’s also wrong,” he shared.

“I’d like to have more privacy. I suppose I’m getting on in years: I belong to that transitional generation where social media didn’t exist when I was a child,” Blanco added.

“Maybe I’ll occasionally post a picture of my wife or some delicious dish I’ve tried, but I hardly ever post anything on my Instagram that isn’t work-related.”

Gomez, 33, and Blanco, 38, signaled that they were more than just friends in July 2023 when the latter attended the singer’s 31st birthday celebration.

That December, the “Only Murders in the Building” star confirmed that she had been secretly dating Blanco for six months.

A year later, Gomez announced that she and Blanco were engaged.

“forever begins now,” the “Emilia Pérez” actress captioned a carousel of photos showing off her diamond sparkler.

In September 2025, Blanco and Gomez tied the knot in a romantic ceremony at the lush Sea Crest Nursery in Santa Barbara, California.

The bride and groom both rocked Ralph Lauren, with the pop star wearing a custom hand-draped halter-neck satin dress with embroidery, and Blanco in a classic black tuxedo and bowtie.

The couple exchanged vows in front of several stars, including Ed Sheeran, Martin Short, Steve Martin, Paul Rudd, Paris Hilton, Zoe Saldaña, SZA and the bride’s BFF Taylor Swift.

Following the nuptials, the newlyweds enjoyed a “perfect” honeymoon — a road trip that spanned the coast of California and Texas.
