Los Angeles may have a reputation as a city where getting anywhere requires a car, but Torrance is offering Rams and Chargers fans a surprisingly cheap alternative.

At a time when seemingly everything about attending an NFL game costs more, Torrance Transit is offering a $4 round trip to SoFi Stadium during the 2026 season. Parking at the Mary K. Giordano Regional Transit Center is free, meaning fans can leave their cars behind and get to Inglewood and back for less than the price of a pack of Twizzlers from stadium concessions.

That bargain stands out even more against the broader cost-of-living picture in Southern California.

Consumer prices in the Los Angeles area were up 3.4 percent over the previous 12 months through July, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Meanwhile, SoFi Stadium warns that its on-site NFL parking inventory is “extremely limited” and directs fans without parking passes toward public transit and park-and-ride alternatives.

And expensive stadium parking is hardly hypothetical in Los Angeles. During the 2026 World Cup, parking for some SoFi Stadium matches climbed as high as $300, at times costing more than the tickets themselves.

Torrance’s alternative is decidedly simpler.

The first buses leave the transit center roughly three hours before kickoff, with the final departure about 30 minutes before game time. After the final whistle, buses continue bringing fans back to Torrance for up to 90 minutes. One catch: the transit center has only 250 free parking spaces, so the city recommends carpooling, rideshare or its Connect Torrance microtransit service when necessary.

It is also a small counterpunch to one of Los Angeles’ most persistent stereotypes.

LA has long been synonymous with freeways, traffic and a sprawling geography built around cars. UCLA transportation researchers still describe the region as a “sprawling, car-centric landscape”, even as billions have been poured into expanding its transit infrastructure.

The 2026 World Cup offered evidence that those habits are not immutable. Nearly 50,000 rail rides were recorded for one match alone, while more than 30,000 rides were taken on special shuttles serving SoFi Stadium. The event became an early test for Los Angeles’ effort to rely much more heavily on public transportation ahead of the 2028 Olympics.

Torrance is applying the same basic idea to Rams and Chargers Sundays.

There is no maze of transfers for fans starting in the South Bay: park, board the bus, go to SoFi and get brought back afterward.

It could also make Torrance a more intriguing home base for out-of-town fans. The city promotes 15 hotels and a direct $4 round-trip game-day ride to SoFi, giving visitors another option beyond staying immediately around Hollywood Park.

Los Angeles will not shed its car-city reputation because of one bus route.

But with prices around the region still climbing, a $4 round trip with free parking qualifies as a rarity.

For Rams and Chargers fans headed to SoFi, Torrance may have found the most un-LA deal in town.
