16-year-old girl faces charges after storming field, tackling middle school football player
A teenage girl from Tennessee is facing multiple charges after she ran onto the field during a middle school football game and tackled a player on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred during a game between South Middle School and Cornersville Middle School, which was being played at Franklin County High School, located in Winchester, Tenn., WSMV reported.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office charged the teen with assault and disorderly conduct.
South scored a touchdown and extra point, and a scuffle broke out between a pair of players after the play, the outlet reported. The 16-year-old then ran onto the field, video showed, and she tackled the South player who was involved in the brief scuffle, knocking him to the ground and sending herself to the field as well.
The stunned player attempted to get back up, but the girl shoved the player back to the ground a second time before a person, who appeared to be a coach, got in her way to keep the unidentified teen from continuing her attack.
The girl was able to leave the field in the video, but WSMV reported that a school resource officer met her as she left the field, and she was released to her parents.
It wasn’t immediately clear why the teen rushed the field and tackled the South Middle player.
In addition to the charges, the teen girl was served with a lifetime trespass ban from Franklin County Schools properties, and she was banned from attending Cornersville Middle School home and away athletic events by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association.
