Comer indicates McConnell staffers aiming for lawmaker to return to Senate later this month

Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., indicated on Thursday that he has been in contact Sen. Mitch McConnell’s, R-Ky., staff, who have indicated that the aim is for the lawmaker to return to the Senate later this month.

“I expect that. I sure hope so,” Comer said after being asked if McConnell was expected to join his Senate colleagues on Sept. 14.

Comer said he had talked to McConnell staff, who have “said it’s their goal for senator McConnell to be here… when the Senate” returns.

Fox News Digital reached out to McConnell’s office on Friday.

Senators are slated to return to work in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 14.

“Other than pro forma sessions on Tuesday September 8th at 1:15 p.m. and Thursday September 10th at 3:00 p.m. the Senate stands adjourned until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14th. There is one vote that evening at 5:30 p.m.,” according to the U.S. Senate Press Gallery website.

McConnell, 84, suffered a fall in June.

In a statement nearly a month ago, the lawmaker noted that he had been released from a rehabilitation center.
