Micah Parsons believes Jayden Daniels ‘probably cost’ Dan Quinn his job after Giants overtime debacle
Micah Parsons got very candid about the Commanders’ botched final play against the Giants in Week 5, saying Jayden Daniels had “probably cost” Dan Quinn his job.
The Packers star edge rusher took the QB to task for the error in the final seconds of overtime that resulted in the Commanders and Giants settling for a tie when all was said and done on Sunday afternoon.
“Jayden Daniels probably cost my man Dan Quinn his job,” Parsons said during the latest episode of “The Edge with Micah Parsons” on Tuesday.
“I’m a big Jayden Daniels fan, but the reality is he probably cost a lot of people their jobs this past weekend.”
During overtime of Sunday’s game, the Commanders moved the ball to the Giants’ 24-yard line with 50 seconds left and the score tied at 27. Washington was slow to get off the next play — wasting 12 seconds — before Daniels ended up scrambling and getting taken to the ground with eight seconds remaining.
The Commanders showed no sense of urgency in getting back to the line and weren’t able to spike the ball to get their field goal unit onto the field, resulting in the tie.
“All respectfully, we get coached so much on these situations that I’m a defensive player and this s–t is programmed to me,” Parsons, the injured All-Pro said. “I know what to do in those situations. There’s no way I’m taking a sack with 14 seconds left [and] no timeouts. It would be different if Jayden Daniels was a rookie. This is your third year.
“You’ve been to the NFC Championship Game, you’ve been in big moments before. And to me, even after you got sacked, you’re casually getting up.”
Both Daniels and Quinn took responsibility publicly for the bungled play.
Following the game, Quinn told reporters, “Ultimately, it’s on me.”
Quinn coached Parsons from 2021-23 while he was the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator.
Quinn has been the Commanders’ head coach since 202,4 and the team is 1-3-1 this season.
