Injured Ducks veteran paves way for Roger McQueen NHL debut
The Ducks are continuing to bring up their top prospects.
On Tuesday, the Ducks announced that they are calling up their top prospect, forward Roger McQueen, a 6-foot-6, 206-pounder from AHL San Diego.
In a corresponding move, Ryan Poehling was placed on Injured reserve and is expected to miss six to eight weeks due to an MCL sprain.
Aside from Poehling’s loss, the Ducks could also be without Cutter Gauthier, who is listed as day to day with an upper-body injury.
When McQueen was selected with the No.10 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, he had one of the more memorable selections. McQueen did not participate in media availability and instead boarded a helicopter to Anaheim and went to Disneyland.
When he arrived, McQueen immediately found himself in Cars Land and started taking photos with the Disney Pixar character Lightning McQueen. He also posed in front of the Disney castle.
Like Lightning McQueen, Roger McQueen will wear No. 95 on the back of his jersey.
McQueen’s emergence on the Ducks’ active roster comes after last year’s first-round pick, Nikita Klepov, was on the team’s opening night roster — igniting a youth takeover to what is already a young Ducks roster.
McQueen, 19, is known for his two-way ability and isn’t shy of utilizing his larger frame.
Last season, he played college hockey for Providence, where he had 11 goals, 16 assists and 27 points in 36 games.
In the AHL this season, McQueen played in seven games and already recorded three points.
According to NHL.com, McQueen practiced on the Ducks’ third line, between Frank Vatrano and A.J. Greer.
“It’s a great day, so very excited,” McQueen said. “Kind of waited for this moment for a while, so super excited,” McQueen said. “Obviously, just trying to get the win and just enjoy it. You only get this once, so it’s one of those things you want to enjoy.”
McQueen’s emergence comes after what’s already been an impressive start to the season for the Ducks. They’re fourth in the Western Conference with a 4-1 record and eight points ahead of Tuesday’s game.
