The preseason Offensive Rookie of the Year favorite is going on injured reserve. 

Cardinals star running back Jeremiyah Love suffered a high ankle sprain in the team’s wild 33-30 comeback victory over the Cowboys and the injury is bad enough to force him out for at least four weeks.

ESPN reports that the injury could have been him out between four and five weeks, putting him on the shortest side of an IR stint. 

The Cardinals have their bye week in Week 14, so it is entirely possible that Love will be out until Week 15.

If that is the case, Arizona will likely weigh whether it is worth bringing him back at all this season. 

Arizona sits at 3-5, a better record than many anticipated coming into this season as they were among the favorites to be picking No. 1 overall in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Love only appeared in six of those games, while dealing with a separate ankle injury. He has totaled 268 yards and one touchdown on the season after going No. 3 in the draft.

The win on Sunday, a comeback gallantly led by gunslinger and freshly minted QB1 Gardner Minshew, might have the Cardinals thinking about attempting to win some more games under first-year coach Mike LaFleur. 

Arizona has a gauntlet schedule upcoming against the Seahawks, Rams and Chiefs where they will sorely miss Love.

In his stead, Tyler Allegeier will get the bulk of the work for the Cardinals and had arguably the best game of his career against the Cowboys in Week 8. 

Allegier took 11 carries for 147 yards and a touchdown. while adding five receptions for 44 yards and another touchdown with Love having exited with the injury.
